The Thirtieth Public Meeting of the Judicial Proceedings Panel on Sexual Assault in the Military was held on May 19, 2017 in Arlington, VA.

Arlington, VA -The thirtieth public meeting of the Judicial Proceedings Panel (“JPP” or “the Panel”) was held on Friday, May 19, 2017 from 9:00 a.m. to 4:15 p.m. at Holiday Inn Arlington at Ballston, Suite 1432, 4610 N. Fairfax Drive, Arlington, Virginia 22203.

The Judicial Proceedings Panel is an independent federal advisory committee established by the Secretary of Defense in June 2014, in accordance with section 576(a)(2) of the National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2013. The Judicial Proceedings Panel is tasked to conduct an independent review and assessment of military judicial proceedings for adult sexual assault offenses since Fiscal Year 2012, for the purpose of developing recommendations to Congress and the Secretary of Defense for improvements to such proceedings.

At this meeting, the Panel received a presentation from the JPP Subcommittee on the Subcommittee’s Report on Barriers to the Fair Administration of Military Justice in Sexual Assault Cases. The Panel deliberated on the JPP sexual assault adjudication data for fiscal year 2015. The Panel also deliberated on the JPP Report on Military Sexual Assault Investigations and the JPP Report on Victims’ Appellate Rights.

This meeting was open to the public. Seating for the meeting was limited and available on a first-come basis.
