The Twelfth Public Meeting of the Judicial Proceedings Panel on Sexual Assault in the Military was held on August 6, 2015 in Washington, DC.

Arlington, VA - The twelfth public meeting of the Judicial Proceedings Panel ("JPP" or "the Panel") was held on Thursday, August 6, 2015, from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. at The George Washington University, School of Law, Faculty Conference Center, 2000 H St. NW, Washington, D.C. 20052.

The Judicial Proceedings Panel was established by the Secretary of Defense in June 2014 in accordance with section 576(a)(2) of the National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2013. The Judicial Proceedings Panel is an independent federal advisory committee tasked to conduct an independent review and assessment of military judicial proceedings for sexual assault offenses since Fiscal Year 2012, for the purpose of developing recommendations to Congress and the Secretary of Defense for improvements to such proceedings.

At this meeting, the Panel began by deliberating on its review of restitution and compensation for sexual assault victims and retaliation against individuals who report incidents of sexual assault within the military.  The panel finished the day discussing its plans to address and report on current and pending topics, including continuing deliberations on restitution & compensation; retaliation against sexual assault victims; and, trends and statistics of courts-martial involving sexual assault crimes under the Uniform Code of Military Justice.
