The Twenty-fifth Public Meeting of the Judicial Proceedings Panel on Sexual Assault in the Military was held on December 9, 2016 in Arlington, VA.

Arlington, VA -The twenty-fifth public meeting of the Judicial Proceedings Panel (“JPP” or “the Panel”) was held on Friday, December 9, 2016 from 9:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at the Holiday Inn-Ballston, Grand Ballroom, 4610 N. Fairfax Drive, Arlington, Virginia 22203.

The Judicial Proceedings Panel is an independent federal advisory committee established by the Secretary of Defense in June 2014 in accordance with section 576(a)(2) of the National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2013. The Judicial Proceedings Panel is tasked to conduct an independent review and assessment of military judicial proceedings for adult sexual assault offenses since Fiscal Year 2012, for the purpose of developing recommendations to Congress and the Secretary of Defense for improvements to such proceedings. 

During the morning session, the Panel received presentations from JPP Subcommittee members and conducted deliberations on recommendations made by the Subcommittee regarding defense resources.

After a break for lunch, the Panel received a briefing on the proposed Military Justice Act of 2016 from the Honorable Andrew Effron, Director of the Department of Defense Military Justice Review Group and Mr. Dwight Sullivan, Associate Deputy General Counsel for Military Justice and Personnel Policy at the Department of Defense.

This meeting was open to the public. Seating for the meeting was limited and available on a first-come basis.
