The Twenty-ninth Public Meeting of the Judicial Proceedings Panel on Sexual Assault in the Military was held on April 7, 2017 in Arlington, VA.

Arlington, VA -The twenty-ninth public meeting of the Judicial Proceedings Panel (“JPP” or “the Panel”) was held on Friday, April 7, 2017 from 9:00 a.m. to 4:15 p.m. at One Liberty Center, Suite 1432, 875 North Randolph Street, Arlington, Virginia 22203.

The Judicial Proceedings Panel is an independent federal advisory committee established by the Secretary of Defense in June 2014, in accordance with section 576(a)(2) of the National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2013. The Judicial Proceedings Panel is tasked to conduct an independent review and assessment of military judicial proceedings for adult sexual assault offenses since Fiscal Year 2012, for the purpose of developing recommendations to Congress and the Secretary of Defense for improvements to such proceedings.

During the morning session, the Panel deliberated on their Victims' Appellate Rights Report, followed by receiving a presentation on the Fiscal Year 2015 sexual assault adjudication data from the JPP staff. 

In the afternoon, the Panel received a presentation from the Department of Defense (DoD) Sexual Assault Prevention and Response Office regarding military adjudication of sexual assault offenses and an update on JPP recommendations 37 and 38 regarding DoD sexual assault data collection and reporting.

This meeting was open to the public. Seating for the meeting was limited and available on a first-come basis.
